Hambleside celebrates 40 years!

This summer the Hambleside Group celebrates its 40th birthday with a
considerable company history. Since the initial set-up in 1973, there have been many challenges and successes, all of which have shaped Hambleside’s history to form the group of companies known today.

Hambleside has always been at the forefront of technology. We have moved from typewriters in the early days of Hambleside, through the1980s, where we had our first computer in the accounts department and communication with Nigeria was via a Telex. And what a revolution the fax machine was! Now of course, PCs, mobile phones, emails and the internet enable instant communication with clients, suppliers and partners – and we’d be lost without them!

The evolution of technology has been mirrored by the evolution of the companies. Having survived three recessions, one factory fire and numerous economic and political changes in Nigeria and the UK, Hambleside’s resilience and hard work continues to define the group of companies. The long history includes the incorporation of Hambleside Holdings Limited, parent company of Hambleside Limited, and Grinterley, the parent company of Hambleside Danelaw Limited and Hambleside Merchandise Limited.

The three companies are diverse but support each other and work side by side. For example, when Hambleside Merchandise received a bespoke order of tea caddies for Costa Coffee, they worked with Hambleside Danelaw to design a suitable solution, which was then manufactured at Hambleside Danelaw’s injection moulding facilities. Equally, Hambleside Merchandise provides Hambleside Danelaw with great branded merchandise to support their sales and marketing activities.

The jewels in the Hambleside 40th Birthday crown are Hambleside Danelaw receiving the Queen’s Award for Innovation in 2006 and relocating into a 50,000 sq. ft. purpose built factory at Daventry, Hambleside Merchandise receiving Gold Distributor of the Year Award at the 2014 Page Conference and Hambleside’s long and successful relationship with Academy Press in Nigeria, marked with Alade Idris Animashaun, whom with David Yellop was one of the original founders of Hambleside, celebrating his 80th birthday in 2013.

Hambleside Ltd provides printing and publishing services to Sub-Saharan Africa, specialising in the sale of equipment, raw materials, technical advice, consulting and support. Close links with Academy Press, the largest commercial printer in Nigeria, have spanned all four decades of the company history, and continue today.

Hambleside Danelaw manufactures low carbon GRP profiled rooflights, wall lights and cladding, the Dryseal GRP roofing system and the Danelaw range of roof, cavity and underfloor ventilation products and ancillaries. The factory in Daventry provides the production base for factory assembled insulated rooflights (FAIRS), injection moulding and vacuum forming facilities whilst the Company’s factory in Dalcross manufactures all the Companies’ GRP products.
